Na離子的含量是通過測定堿的量來推算，用酚酞作指示劑，鹽酸標準溶液滴定至溶液的紅色消失為終點，由消耗的鹽酸量計算氫氧化的量，從而算出鈉離子的含量。2價Na離子的含量采用在檸檬酸鹽的氨性介質中，用丁二酮肟顯色，在450nm處測定其吸光度，以純鎳作標準曲線，計算其含量。
